Dan has been a great friend of our family (John, and Rita) for over 40 years. He was one of the first people that John met when he moved to the Niagara Region in the late 1970s. In the intervening years we (Rita and John) have had many memorable adventures with Dan. There are too many to list, but they ranged from ski weeks and weekends to a variety of more sedate activities. Unfortunately, these became less frequent after we moved away, but Dan and Shirley were always in our thoughts and we maintained strong relationship.
Dan approached the adversity of the last couple years with grace and courage. He maintained what might be described a cynical attitude and awareness to the world around him. We clearly remember the long conversation that we had with him a couple weeks before he died. We got off the phone that evening and said, ‘He’s Still Dan’, to each other. At that moment he was still looking ahead at a better future.
The end came too quickly. Rita and I will truly miss Dan and will continue to remember the good times and adventures that we enjoyed together.
Our deepest condolences are with Shirley and Dan’s family in this difficult time. (Shirley: We will always cherish our good times and your unconditional love and support for Dan, particularly during the past few years.)
