Obituary of Margaret "Joan" McNeil

McNeil, Margaret “Joan” passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 22, 2016 at the age of 84. She was a beloved wife of the late Peter, loving mother of Alan (Addy) and Barbara (Todd) Carlson. Cherished grandmother of Colin (Krista) Lee and Tristan (Jenifer) Lee. Proud “GG” of Tyson and Gryphon. Sadly missed by her sister Shirley (Ken) O’Brien and the Halbert and Carlson clans. Joan left the prairies after psychiatric nurse training to marry Peter and make their home in Fort Erie. She continued her career at Douglas Memorial Hospital and after a break for children, later worked as a physiotherapist aide there. Peter and Joan enjoyed many happy years together with great friends and neighbours. In later years, Joan volunteered and worked with many organizations that she felt made her beloved community so strong. Music was a huge part of Joan’s life and she was an active choir member even up until a year ago. Her lifelong friendships and devotion to her family are a tribute to a life well lived. Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Road N, Ridgeway entrusted with arrangements. Family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and a celebration of her life will be held in the chapel on Saturday morning at 11:00 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Douglas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in her memory.
