Just saw in the paper of Ron's passing. I would have attended the funeral had I know earlier in the day. So sorry to see, though I have not had contact with him for at least 20 years. Ron was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Fort Erie in a transfer from the London Car Shops of the CN Railway. I believe our histories are similar in that sense. My job as a mechanic (Carman) was not to my liking: Too many cold and wet days doing a job keeping the freight moving with minimal crude repairs. To make sure that job wasn't a lifetime career I started night courses at Fort Erie Secondary. Ron was my machine shop teacher. I attended his classes for several years, gaining many skills in the process which have been useful throughout my life, at home as well as in my new career at INCO Research Stations in Port Colborne. Work is behind me now but still remember the very important part educators like Ron played in my life. May he rest in peace. Thanks for a job well done!
