Obituary of LaVancia McGaw Moore

LaVancia McGaw Moore, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on November 11, 2024.

LaVancia, affectionately known as "Vicki" by her family and friends, was a vibrant and spirited woman who brought joy to everyone she encountered. Her laughter and loving personality were truly contagious, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on July 21, 1937, in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, Vicki was the daughter of John Robert McGaw and Margaret McGaw. She was one of nine siblings, and her family played an important role in shaping the loving and outgoing woman she became.

Vicki pursued her nursing career after obtaining her nursing license and moved to Charlotte, NC, where she met and married James (Jim) Marshall Moore. Together, they shared many happy years before Jim’s passing in 1994.

A dedicated member of Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, Vicki’s faith was a central part of her life. Her joyful energy was evident wherever she went. Whether it was spending holidays surrounded by family or watching her grandchildren's sporting events, Vicki was the life of the party. She adored the beach, and in her younger years, she loved to shag dance to lively tunes. Music, art, and fashion were among her many passions, and she had a remarkable appreciation for all things beautiful.

Vicki was lovingly known as "Tutu" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she embraced this title with pride and exuberance. Even in her late 80s, she remained as energetic as ever, attending countless events and traveling whenever possible, always eager to create new memories with her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Vicki is predeceased by her beloved husband, James (Jim) Moore; her brother, John Robert McGaw, Jr.; and her sisters Clara, Marie, Anna, Esther, and Celia.

Vicki is survived by her two sisters, Loraine Light, and Linda Cosby; daughter, Marie (Jayne) Hassel; her granddaughter, Jahn-Marie Hopkins; and her four great-grandchildren: Haylee Marie, Jackson Donald Raymond, Campbell Lyle, and Paisleigh Elizabeth. She was a devoted grandmother whose love for her grandchildren knew no bounds.

A celebration of Vicki's life will be held at the Ridgeway Legion Branch 230 in Ridgeway, Ontario December 14th at 2pm where her family and friends will come together to honor the memory of a remarkable woman whose spirit will never be forgotten.
