Contributions to the tribute of Donald Shafer Fretz

We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Fretz’s passing. We had only met him recently while he was my dad’s “roommate” at the Welland Hospital. The two Don’s had worked together many years ago at Atlas Specialty Steels and it was a blessing that they would end up sharing a hospital room. I had many conversations with Mr. Fretz and his family while visiting my dad and their encouragement and comforting words gave me strength. Mr. Fretz was kind and caring, a true gentleman. It gives us comfort now that perhaps the two Don’s are together again reminiscing about the good old days.

We were very sorry to learn this evening of Don's passing. My older brother and I will always remember his kindness to us back in 1965 when General Conference was at Upland, California. Don took us to Knott's Berry Farm for a fun day at that famous amusement park. In more recent years, Shelley and I had a few occasions when our paths crossed with Don at Maple Park Lodge and we were able to visit for awhile. Shelley and I want to express our sympathy to the Fretz and Mater families.
