Obituary of Jane Louise Martin

MARTIN (Everett)  Jane Louise  (August 21, 1937 -   July 28, 2023)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, sister, aunt.  Jane lived most of her life in the Ridgeway area and could always be seen riding her bike around Ridgeway visiting people along the way.

She is survived by her sons Richard (Evelyn) and Tom (Tina).  Her daughters Louise (Pete) and Jean Hyatt (George).   Grandchildren Sarah(Steven), Joshua, Joe (Dawn), Adam (Jessie) & Amanda

Great-grandchildren Kaleb, Geana, Hailey and Owen.   Her sisters Edna Ayres, Bea Kenny, brother-in-law Robert Webb and many nieces & nephews.

Pre-deceased by her husband Bud, her father James Everett, her mother Lillian Ayres, step-father Edward Ayres, her brother Stanley Ayres, and her sisters Carol Webb, Grace Rawcliffe as well as brothers in law James Rawcliffe and Wayne Kenny.

Jane worked at the Port Colborne Shoe Factory as a young adult.  Riding her bike three miles into work each day.  After marrying her husband Bud she returned to Ridgeway to live.

Jane worked for twenty-seven years for the Town of Fort Erie as a school crossing guard, no matter what the weather Jane was there, she received a commendation from the Town upon her retirement for her unblemished work record of never missing a days work in all those years.  She loved her position and the children who grew to know her over the years loved her too.   Jane spent the last five years of her life in the ILTC unit of Extended Care in Welland, moving there in May, 2018.  She was fondly known as the “Singing Queen” and the staff that worked there placed a sign on her walker that stated this.  She loved joining in with the singing groups that came into the home to provide entertainment to the residents.  She was often seen walking in the hallways with headphones on singing a tune. Many thanks to the staff at ILTC Extended Care Welland and Dr. Khandelwal for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers donations can be to the Residents Council of ILTC unit of Extended Care in Welland.

Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Rd. N. entrusted with arrangements.  The family will receive friends on Thursday August 3rd from 2-4 and 6-8.  Funeral Services will take place in the Funeral Chapel on Friday morning at 11:30. Interment will follow in Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery.
