Obituary of David Baird McGlaughlin

David Baird McGlaughlin

November 28, 1937 – March 16, 2023

David passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday March 16th, 2023, at Chapel Heights Seniors Residence in Niagara Falls.  He is survived by his wife and best friend, Carol; his three daughters Karen (Lee) Andrews of Carlisle, Reed (Derek) Riemer of Fort Erie, and Tracy (Adrian) Scigliano of Georgetown; and his seven grandchildren: Evan, Carly, Morgan, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Lucas and Emma. He is predeceased by his son Kevin in 1989.

He grew up in the district of N.D.G. in Montreal where he developed a lifelong love of sports.  He had great memories of his 1958 N.D.G. Maple Leafs football team.  This was the first team in Quebec that played for the Canadian Junior Grey Cup Championship.

He graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1960 and then joined IBM where he worked for 18 years.  Over the next twenty years he held executive positions with international companies in Canada and the United States with subsidiaries worldwide.

He retired in 1998 and since then he and our mom became inseparable; volunteering, travelling, and staying active together.  They enjoyed many years wintering at their home in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  Even in retirement, he had a thirst for knowledge.  There wasn’t a problem he didn’t love to analyze!!

His greatest joy was seeing his seven grandchildren growing up.  He was a great family man, a loving father and husband, and he will be deeply missed.

Williams Funeral Services, Fort Erie, have been entrusted with private family arrangements.  The family would like to thank all the staff at Chapel Heights for their care and compassion over the past several months.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fort Erie SPCA are welcome as animals were near and dear to our dad’s heart.
