My Mother was laid to rest Thursday October 3 at 11:00 AM - at The Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery in Yarmouth Nova Scotia.
She was buried next to her sister Kathleen; and laid to rest along with the ashes of her predeceased daughter (my sister) Rosanna.
I love you both - you lived life in a way I never could - both so able to command the moment to moment realities that can overwhelm most of us. It would be impossible to list all the things that they accomplished along the way. My Mother was the first women to hold a liquor license in Ontario - and organized the first restaurant and hospitality association - but it just never stopped.
She helped so many people along the way - I grew up never knowing who would be staying in our spare room - from relatives needing help to people we simply knew that needed somewhere to stay or to be safe. Especially young people. Even the last weekend of her life - she was answering the phone - fielding questions for The Friends of Crystal Beach - that is why I say - it never stopped. She made things that seemed impossible; possible. She taught me that every problem has a solution, a seam that can be followed to find resolution; but she had the mastery to make that resolution the one she desired: that was the magic.
We have lost a force - My condolences to the town and people she knew - You will need to think like "Shirl" - to protect the town you love. Most times my Mother would let her adversaries make the first move and then counter punch - if that helps. Because usually people with poor intentions are vulnerable. But the solution is always there - you just have to be able to see it -
Love You Mom - I am sure heaven could use some fixing up... You must be busy organizing already.

Hi Great Aunt Shirley's family;
So sorry to hear this news. We met you in 1967 when I stayed at your place in Crystal Beach when I stayed there with my family on our way back from Expo. Your mom was my mother's aunt and Gran Grace was still alive.
I had the pleasure of meeting your mom once again when she flew to Dartmouth, NS and stayed a couple of nights with my folks when she was on her way to Yarmouth. My grandmother was Mary Goodwin who was your mom's sister.
My father passed away last April and my mom, Muriel is in a nursing home here in Dartmouth with dementia. I was up to see her today and gave her the news but I'm not sure how much she really remembers.
I was so glad to see that your mom was so active in her community.
My brother Greg Hill, who live outside Bridgewater, NS was in touch with Rachel in U.K. And I have a sister DIANE MORRISON in Calgary.
My condolences to all your family, maybe someday we can meet again if you are ever in Nova Scotia.
Susan Grant
