Obituary of Harry Herbert
HERBERT, Harry - After a remarkably long and full life, just shy of his 100th birthday on December 18th, Harry Lewis Herbert of Crystal Beach. Predeceased by his beloved wife Vera, whom he was married to for over 71 years. Loving Father of Barry (Shirley) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Cathy (Jack O’Brien) of Ridgeway. Proud Grandfather of Lesly Lewandowski of Kansas, Lisa (Randy) Robinson of Oklahoma, Richard (Judy) Herbert of Kansas, Peter (Nadie) Herbert of France, and Glen (Laura) Herbert of Burlington.
Great Grandfather of Joshua Robinson and Hannah Robinson of Oklahoma, and Grace Herbert, James Herbert, and Charlie Herbert of Burlington.
Predeceased by his son Richard (Judie) of Grimsby, infant daughter Susan, parents Eliza Jane and William Herbert, and sisters Phoebe, Reta, Sadie and Mabel.
Harry was born in 1913 in Ridgeville, moving to Welland, Fort Erie and eventually Crystal Beach in 1941. He worked at Fleet Aircraft in Fort Erie, as well as Buffalo, NY, before operating his own remodeling and construction business until his retirement in 1978. He served two years in the Canadian Armed Forces at Camp Borden as an instructor in the RCAMC. He was an active member of People’s United Church in Crystal Beach until closing, then joining the First United Church in Sherkston.
His devotion to home and family were foremost during his long and fulfilling life.
Harry’s family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Road North, Ridgeway, on Saturday November 16th between 11 a.m and 1 p.m.
Funeral service will be held following visitation at 1 o’clock, with a reception to follow. Private interment at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Church in Sherkston, or the Fort Erie SPCA.
