Surrounded by this family, in his 85th year, Robert Arden “Rip” Smith died peacefully on Dec. 7, 2017 at Gilmore Lodge in Fort Erie. “Rip” was a lifelong resident of Ridgeway and faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley (nee Cummins) and his children, Robert, Lorna Moran (Jeff), & Gail Baglole (Rev. Kevin). He will also be sorely missed by his four grandchildren, Bailey, Paige, Joshua & Hannah. He is predeceased by his parents Martin and Mary as well as all of his siblings, Evelyn, Gladys, Harold and Marvin. He will also be missed by many nieces & nephews and extended family. Having learned his meat-cutting trade from his father at MJ Smith Meats in Ridgeway, “Rip” went on to a 30 year career at A&P. The family wishes to thank the staff on Wintemute House at Gilmore Lodge and Pastors Kormano & Cameron for their care for “Rip”. Visitation will be held on Sun. Dec. 10 2- 4pm and 7-9pm at Williams Funeral Services in Ridgeway. Funeral Services will be conducted at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, corner of Disher St. and Prospect Pt. Rd. N. in Ridgeway on Mon. Dec. 11 at 1pm. A reception will follow in Luther Hall. A private family interment will take place afterward. The Family will provide floral tributes and request that memorial donations in “Rip’s” name be given to Gilmore Lodge’s Palliative Care program c/o 50 Gilmore Rd. Fort Erie, ON L2A 2M1.
