Obituary of Andrea Nigro

Andrea May Nigro (née De Carolis) passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, ON at the age of 67. She was born in Buffalo, NY where she lived until her marriage. Andrea leaves behind her devoted husband Armando. She was the proud mother of Marie Victoria and Louis Alexander (Mindie), and the loving grandmother of Charity Rose and Aiden Mataeo. Andrea was predeceased by her parents Alex De Carolis (who was one of the founders of the Allentown Art Festival in Buffalo, NY) and Julie De Carolis-Eckelman (née Cologgi). Andrea was a professed and active member of St. Mary of the Angels Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Welland, ON for over thirty years. She also sung in the choir at St. George’s church in Crystal Beach, ON for many years, and was one of the leaders of the Rosary Circle at St. Joseph’s School in Snyder for three years. Andrea also had much compassion for animals and animal welfare. She was a life-long animal lover, having pets of all kinds since childhood, and, as an adult she looked after many different sorts of creatures, including feeding the stray cats that congregated on her property. She eventually adopted four of them. Williams Funeral Services in Ridgeway, ON have been entrusted with the arrangements. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 12 at 722 Ridge Road North. At 4:30 pm members of Andrea’s Franciscan Fraternity will be hosting a special prayer service. A Mass will be held to celebrate Andrea’s life on Monday, March 13 at St. Joseph’s church, Snyder, located at 3718 Netherby Road, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, 4764 Portage Road, Niagara Falls, ON. If so desired, donations to the Rosary Shrine, Port Colborne, would be appreciated by the family.
