Obituary of William Nelson

William Alexander “Bill” Nelson, born May 4th 1937 (Montreal), son of the late David and Ruby Nelson, went home to the Lord on November 3rd 2016 (aged 79) at Toronto General Hospital, surrounded by family. Bill Graduated as an Electrical Engineer from McGill University and Queen’s University subsequently obtained his MBA from York University. Bill’s career started with railway signals and telemetry modernization projects after which he joined the TD Bank rising to Senior Vice-President, Data Processing Operations. Upon retirement, he was actively involved in the community serving on the Fort Erie Property Standards Committee, the Regional Emergency Preparedness Council and, most recently, Board Director and Chair of the IT Committee at Niagara Christian Collegiate where many students waved hellos to him as “ Grandpa Bill”. He was an active member at the Riverside Community Church and a regular at the Men’s Breakfast Club known for his disruptive humour and witticisms. He was an avid amateur photographer and a lifelong HAM radio devotee, most recently in the challenging 5 watt class. Bill and Huguette loved to travel adopting Grenada, West Indies as their winter home. Bill is survived by his wife, Huguette Trottier, and her children Cathy McGrath (James Peczkowski), Lisa McGrath (Dale Cooley), Tina Huk (Bo), Frank McGrath (Sharon) and his children, Deborah Nelson (Robert Harris), Stephen Nelson (Katherine Nelson, nee Grant), and David Nelson (Wendy Pearson), and his grandchildren, Ruby, Joshua, Evyn, Max, Abby, Jenna, Ryan, Rachel, Christian, Ivy, Sydney, Anton, Nellena and Michelle . Bill will be missed by his family and friends for his unintrusive love and devotion, quiet counsel and ironic sense of humour. Visitation will be held Wednesday 7:00-9:00 PM at Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Road N, Ridgeway, ON (905-894-1161) with funeral services on Thursday 11:00 AM at Riverside Community Church, 2669 Niagara Parkway, Fort Erie ON.
