Obituary of Janet Boyce
BOYCE, Janet – At the Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, Ontario, Janet passed away suddenly on February 3, 2016 as a result of sudden heart failure. She was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Alan Boyce in 2004. Janet was mother of Ian (Robin), Gordon (Evelyn) and Cyndy (Paul) and beloved grandmother of Alan and Kurt Boyce as well as Alex and Emily Scott. Born on Ridge Road at home to Hazel (nee Pound) and George McCaulley, Janet graduated from Ridgeway High School at the age of 16 and attended teachers college in Hamilton. She was fortunate to secure her first teaching position at Ridgeway Public School. She met Alan at Cedar Bay and they wed shortly after Alan returned from active service in WWII. The couple settled in Ridgeway and started their family. Janet attended Brock University and was graduated with a BA in English. She later completed a Master of Arts degree at the University of Buffalo where she also pursued further postgraduate studies. Janet taught for many years in both the public and separate school divisions, led seminars at Brock University, and taught English at Fort Erie High School for many years before she retired. Janet’s roots in Ridgeway date back to the 18th century when her family settled in the area. Because of her passion and extensive knowledge of the township she remained actively involved with the Bertie Historical Society until her death. Janet was an avid bridge player, knitter, and quilter, but her main interest was always literature.
