NIGH, Calvin George - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Calvin George Nigh. On October 29th, 2014, Calvin’s heart stopped with his loving wife, Andrea at his side. Calvin was able to be an organ and tissue donor. Calvin was a phenomenal father and is survived his son Griffin, 17 and his daughter Gwenythe, 12. Calvin was a devoted son to the late Wendell (Jake) Nigh (2008) and Joyce (Seburn) Nigh of Fort Erie, ON. He was a much-loved brother to Donna Nigh of St. Catharines. Brother-in-law to Alynne (Kevin) Grover of Alvinston, On and Carl Borrowman (Len Mazzara) of San Francisco, California and son-in-law to Clare and Dawn Borrowman of Alvinston, On. Calvin was a favourite uncle to Jessica Nigh of St. Catharines and Wyatt, Rowen, and Delaney Grover of Alvinston, On. Calvin graduated from Ridgeway-Crystal Beach High School where he was Valedictorian of the class of 1984. His passion for football began here when he played for Fort Erie Secondary school. He played on to become an OUAA All Star and Wildman Trophy recipient with the Guelph Gryphons at the University of Guelph where he also earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. Calvin earned his Master’s of Education from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, NY in 1992 and became an educator for the Niagara South Board of Education at Fort Erie Secondary School where his teaching and football coaching career began. He was full of pride in 1996 when he became Department Head of History at his alma mater Ridgeway-Crystal Beach High School, a position he held for 17 years. He loved every student. His passion for the game was culminated with his induction into the Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame in 2014. Calvin will most certainly be remembered for sharing his passion for football with the community. He did all that was necessary to create a team for RCBHS that had a focus on respect, principled discipline and team spirit. He loved every player. Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Rd. in Ridgeway, ON where visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 6-9 pm as well as on Sunday, November 2nd from 1-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11am at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre, 99 Ridge Rd. South, Ridgeway. Interment will follow at Ridgeway Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre. Charitable Donations may be made to a Memorial Scholarship Fund in Calvin's name or the Autism Society of Ontario.
