These are FaceBook condolences from Dad's former students and friends.
Julene Hodges Schroeder
Dearest Greg, I just read the news about your dear, dear Dad this morning. It really hit my heart. Especially after the most touching picture EVER that you posted the other day of him praying with Mr. Wallace. I had to get out my book and read pp.186-7, my funny story of him helping me with Science (what a brave man!!!) when I took it by correspondence in grade 10. And I thanked the Lord so much for him - all his fun, but especially his kindness. Wow! This hits right in the heart. I pray so much for you and your brothers that God's comfort will be extra special and tender to you. Please know that we will all be praying for you. I miss him! Love and prayers to you all!
This morning, I just read where a very dear, funny, smart teacher, Mr. Giles, and especially a KIND man passed away yesterday. I got out my book, "Under An African Sky" and just had to re-read a funny story I wrote about him when he was so kindly tutoring me in Science in grade 10. It's on pp. 186-7. Interestingly, his son Greg had posted the sweetest picture just the other day of his dad, Mr. Giles, praying with (my grades 8 and 9 teacher) Mr. Wallace. Heaven welcomes a person who was loved and is now missed by so many. Enjoy your well-deserved rewards for a beautiful life, Mr. Giles! We'll see you in a little while!

Tears falling as I write this ....Dear Mr. Giles is gone. So silly of me to cry, since he is rejoicing with the Lord. He probably had no idea how much he was loved. I love to think about my Dad greeting Mr. Giles in Heaven!

So sorry for your loss. I so value my time talking with him; a lifelong learner, a "doer" of Kingdom deeds, a bright and adventurous spirit, and a kind heart.

Whether a star in the skies, or some scat in the soil, Ernie could identify both. He was a lover of God and of God’s creation. He was always a learner, and thus ever a teacher of the realities of this world, and especially of the revelation of God’s Word. He was Uncle Ernie to kids of all ages.
He was a pastor’s friend - loyal, trustworthy and forthright - and so for a treasured time at Riverside he was my confidante, my counsellor, my encourager, my friend.
Thanks be to God.
To Glennis and to the Giles boys and their families, my love and sympathy in your season of sorrow.
