Obituary of Mildred Evelyn Jones

MILDRED EVELYN JONES

October 18, 1921 - September 3, 2019 

 

Mildred passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3rd, just shy of her 98th birthday.

 She is dearly missed by her daughter Brenda; her son Tim; her grandchildren Christopher (Vikki), Alicia, Callon (Alahnnaa), Shanna & Sabrina; her “little sister” Marie; and all those for whom she held a special place in her heart.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Thomas O. Jones, a prominent local lawyer, her parents, Anna and Tracy Zavitz and her sister, Aileen Zavitz.

She was born at the family home in Ridgeway, worked at local concessions and retail stores while attending Ridgeway elementary and secondary schools, studied business and accounting at Robinson Business College in Welland, then taught at the College followed by a career at John Deere, until starting a family. 

As a housewife, she took pride in raising her children and supporting her husband at home and in the community. Mildred was a long-term active member of the Ridgeway Memorial United Church and led a CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training) church group.  Her interests included world travel with Tom and entertaining local and international friends in their home. Her hobbies included golfing, curling, bridge, stamp collecting, bird watching, and backgammon.  She loved spending summers at the family cottage.

She was affectionately known for her humour, quick wit and point of view, and a warm heart. 

A celebration of Mildred’s life will take place on Saturday November 30th, at Williams Funeral Home, 722 Ridge Rd N., Ridgeway.  Visitation from 10 to 10:30 a.m.; Service at 10:30 a.m., with reception to follow. Interment to follow at 1:15 p.m.
