Kenneth Thomson

Obituary of Kenneth John Thomson

It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth John Thomson announces his peaceful passing at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Tuesday October 17, 2023, at the age of 87.

Above all, Ken loved his family and was a devoted husband to Rita for 68 years, adoring and caring for her until his passing. “KT” will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Ken (Cindy), Wayne (Nancy), Kathy (Peter); five grandchildren, Adrienne (Tim), Emily (Adam), Brittany (Tomas), Michael (Mallory), Kenny; three treasured great-grandchildren, Connor, Ian, Lucy; and numerous other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Ken was born in Montreal, Québec and lived there until his family moved to Crystal Beach, where he met the love of his life, Rita. Ken was a long-time volunteer with the Crystal Beach Fire Department, where he served for six years as Chief. He worked as a Foreman at Higgins Construction in Buffalo, NY, and was a proud member of the Laborers' Union Local 210. On visits to Buffalo, he often pointed out the details of bridges and other landmarks that he helped bring to life.

Through the years, KT and Rita had fun travelling, especially their vacations to Florida. He had many happy memories with friends on both sides of the border. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, testing his luck at the racetrack, playing pool at the Legion, and his annual fishing trip up north. He always looked forward to spending time with his favourite brother-in-law, Gary, and Kathy Sandel (aka Morrissey). He loved watching a variety of sports and was a dedicated and long-suffering Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.

Our family would like to offer heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Garrison Place, especially Sarah, Billie-Jo and Paulette. There are angels among us.

KT was known for his kindness, good sense of humour, and well-timed one-liners. To honour his memory, please share a corny dad joke with someone you love. The bigger the groan, the better.

As Dad would say, “if you have to leave, leave them laughing.
