Obituary of Marie Frances Haggerty

Haggerty : Marie

It is with sadness and appreciative hearts that we announce the passing of a sweet and very loving Mother and Grandmother Marie Francis Haggerty on June 12, 2023 with her daughter by her side at Northland Point.

We are comforted knowing that Marie is reunited in heaven with her predeceased husband Raymond Haggerty (April 23, 2011) and siblings Denise (Jerry) Carpenter, Yvon (Carol) Morvan, Besse (Rene) Rankin and her son-in-law Craig Miner.

Marie was able to celebrate her 100th milestone birthday with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family friends. Where warm memories and many stories were shared of the family farm in Sherkston.

Marie was born on February 10, 1923 in Port Colborne, ON. Marie was the eldest daughter of 4, to French immigrants, the late Jean (John) and Jeanne Marie Morvan. Marie married the love of her life Ray on October 28, 1944.

Marie leaves behind her 3 children Laurie (Craig Miner predeceased November 30, 2017), Tim, Dennis (Victoria) and her beloved grandsons Andrew, Shane (Hollie), Tim “T.R” (Emma), Derek and Michael.

Marie was a homemaker and led a busy life on the family farm where Marie loved to cook and bake her famous oatmeal date cookies and delicious French cuisine. Marie took pride in her sewing, knitting, oil painting, music and her gardens. Marie was active within her community and the Rebekah Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows for over 4 decades where she found the love for travelling with her friends over the years. When not busy with her family and the community, you would find Marie alongside her husband Ray, Marie played a key role in hitting all of Rays campaign trails. Marie was a true asset and Rays strongest supporter in his lifetime of political aspirations.

In her final years, she gracefully accepted the growing impact of dementia while frequently expressing her profound sense of gratefulness for family and grandchildren who she fondly loved.

Marie consistently maintained her unique sassiness wit and motherly tone with a contagious smile through the most difficult times and always generated warmth, support and love in return.

Marie’s kind, compassionate happy nature is part of her legacy of her family and everyone she called a friend.

The family extends their gratitude to Northland Point nursing staff, PSW’s, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Che for their continued care and support to a wonderful woman.

If so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of your choice.

Williams Funeral Services, Ridgeway were entrusted with the private family services.
