Olga De Simone

Obituary of Olga De Simone

DE SIMONE, Olga

It is with saddened hearts that the family of Olga De Simone (nee Ciuffetelli) announces her peaceful passing on May 9, 2023 in her 97th year, with her loving family by her side.

We are comforted knowing that she is reunited in heaven with Antonio, her beloved husband of 65 years, who she longed to join since his passing 12 years ago.

Olga was the dearly loved and cherished mother of Marcello and his wife Cathy, and Annie and her husband John (deceased in 2017) Van Koughnett. She was a proud and adoring Nonna to her grandchildren Julie Ann and David (Laura) Van Koughnett, and Michael (Dustin) and Stephen (Lindsay) De Simone, and great-grandchildren Natalie and Eleanor Van Koughnett, and Pierce, Madison, Mathis, Nolan, Camreigh, and Everleigh De Simone.

Born on August 25, 1926 in Collebrincioni, Abruzzo, Italy, Olga was predeceased by her parents Ciro and Pasqua Ciuffetelli and siblings Livio, Goffredo, and Flora (Zefferino D’Angelo). She will be lovingly remembered by sisters-in-law Giovanna and Andreina Ciuffetelli, and was a treasured aunt to her many nieces and nephews, both near and far.

As Mom, Nonna and Zia, Olga had a selfless love for her family and friends. With her warm smile and welcoming spirit, she was eager to give hugs and kisses, and always provided advice and wisdom learned from life experiences.

Forever prayerful and faithful, Olga was a 70 years long member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, since first arriving in Fort Erie in May of 1953. With determination and hard work at the Fort Villa Motel, Ontario Bakery, and Marcan Industry, Olga and Antonio realized their Canadian dream.

Her busy hands never stopped crocheting doilies, knitting blankets, mending, sewing, canning, and cooking her delicious Italian cuisine. Even after losing Tony, we marveled as she tended to her vegetable garden and beautiful flowers, and so proudly cared for the home they had built together.

We sincerely thank Dr. Claudius Che and his staff for the exceptional care and kindness provided throughout the years. Mom always enjoyed her appointments and especially loved his home visits. We express our deepest gratitude to Sarah McPhee, Kasey Vamplew, and the excellent nursing, PSW and support staff at Garrison Place who so lovingly cared for Mom with great compassion. Much appreciation to the lovely residents who were so welcoming during her brief time there. Our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kim Scher and nurses Joslyn and Jackie for their daily visits.

Family and friends will be received at Williams Funeral Home, Ridgeway, Ontario on Thursday, May 11, 2023 between 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, with vigil prayers at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Fort Erie, Ontario on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1 pm. The Rite of Committal will follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Fonthill, Ontario. Those who wish may plant a tree or perform an act of kindness in memory of Olga.
