Obituary of Alexander Barnett "Barney" Ogilvie

Ogilvie, Alexander Barnett (Barney) - Passed away suddenly at Douglas Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years June (nee Jones), and daughters Lorraine Ogilvie of Winnipeg, Carol (Art) Krantz of Vermilion Bay, Ont., and Jan (Keith) Hawkins of Vancouver. Grandfather to Megan Krantz of Vermilion Bay, Jared (Laura) Krantz of Bradford, Ont. and Jordan (Trisha) Krantz of Phoenix, Arizona and great-grandfather to their daughter Kylie. Barney was born March 16, 1929 in Toronto, and spent his early years working for CN Rail, and then Bell Canada. The family left Niagara Falls for Dryden, Ontario in 1962, where he continued with Bell while June worked for the school system. Barney loved fishing and hunting, and dreams were realized as he and June built a house on Thunder Lake, and later bought and operated Bonny Bay fishing and hunting lodge along with several outposts. Barney spent time as a deputy conservation officer, a union bargaining agent, and Reeve of Barclay Township. Barney and June moved back to the Niagara area in 2000. He was a long time champion trap shooter and won many awards in Canada and the United States, traveling yearly to Florida to attend the shoots. June and Barney loved Barbados and were yearly visitors there as well. Barney made friends wherever he went, was always interested in everyone he met, and maintained many friendships throughout the years. He will be dearly missed by many, and always loved and never forgotten by his family. No service by request.
