Obituary of Irene Jane Horncastle

HORNCASTLE, IRENE JANE

Irene Jane Horncastle born in Marathon, Ontario and for the last ten years resided in Ridgeway, Ontario passed away on October 5, 2025 at the Welland Hospital, after a long, hard battle of various medical issues. Irene had a passion for cars and loved her years working at Chrysler Brampton. Irene enjoyed travelling the roads with her PT Cruiser (Woody). Since 1977 she has been an avid Blue Jays fan, having been part of naming the Blue Jays team. She enjoyed remodelling projects with her wife in their homes. She loved the outdoors and gardening but most of all she cherished her collection of nativity scenes. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Jean Alice and David Clarkson Horncastle, and sister Mary Elizabeth Horncastle. Irene leaves behind her wife Joyce Veen, her three children Erin McSweeney, Shane Van Hal (Todd), Josh McSweeney (Sarah), step-daughter Debra Poole (Stephen). Her cherished grandchildren Victoria and Piper Van Hal and Thomas McSweeney. Her two sisters Judy Van Nest (The Late Kingsley), Sally Horncastle, brother David Horncastle (Toni), sister-in-law Betty McElroy (Dave). As well as many nieces and nephews. We will be celebrating Irene’s life at St. Columba Anglican Church, 7 Columba Drive, St Catharines Ontario on Thursday October 30, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, all friends and family invited.
