Obituary of Douglas Gilbert Stewart

Douglas Stewart “Dougie”, age 77, of Crystal Beach, Ontario passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, after a long brave battle with cancer.

Doug, a true legend, was born May 29, 1947, in Toronto, Ontario to parents George Stewart and his wife Violet. Doug, born a lover of all things sunny, was set out to accomplish big things. Doug worked for the government for over 30 years, changing people’s lives daily.

Dougie met his partner, Roger Cottrill, in 2001, and they spent many wonderful years together making the best memories.

Dougie was passionate about his dogs, Ben and Jett, the hot sunny weather, travelling, his faith and his gardens which he was so proud of and won multiple awards for. He was an active member of St. James and St. Brendan Anglican Church for many years where he received an Order of Niagara.

Doug is survived by his partner, Roger, his sister Joyce Morrison (Michael) and best friend Marlene Krasic, his dogs Ben and Jett and his nieces, Laura and Julie Morrison and nephews, who he loved dearly.

Dougie is preceded in his death by his parents, George and Violet.

A visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Services in Ridgeway, April 22, 2025, from 10-12. The Memorial Mass will be held at St. James and St. Brendan’s Church at 1pm, in Port Colborne, led by Reverend Canon Michael Degan. Followed by burial at Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ridgeway.
