Obituary of Mary Ann Wood

It is with heavy hearts the family of Mary Ann Wood announce her passing on January 25th, 2025. She fought a courageous battle from a sudden illness and passed peacefully at the Niagara Falls hospital surrounded by loved ones at the age of 79.

She leaves behind her Husband Les Chafe, his children Sandra, Pam, George and their families as well as Les’s brothers and sisters. She was the proud mother of her children Michele (Gary) Curtis, Karey (Anna) Wood and Tina Prestidge from her marriage to her late Husband David Wood (1995). Much loved grandmother to Miranda, Morgan, Shannon (step grandchild), Travis, Stephanie, Ashley, George, Jake and their families. She was a much loved Nanny and GIGI to many great grandchildren that she adored. Cherished sister of Penny (Bruce) Cooke, Wayne (Kay) Larocque, Anita (Larry) McKellar, Pauline Johnston, Larry (Rita)Larocque, Jerry (Debbie) Larocque, Terry Larocque, Darlene (Elvin) Gibbons. Fondly remembered as Auntie Ann by her nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Hazel Larocque, her in-laws Albert and Loretta Wood, her brother Gary Larocque, her brother in law Wilfred Johnston, her in-laws Faye and Joe Letwin, Sandra Bruyere and Dan Wood.

Mary Ann was the second of ten children born and raised in Crystal Beach. She spent all of her life in Fort Erie where she enjoyed her family and friends. She was the proud owner of Ann’s Place, a restaurant she opened in the 80’s on Queen Street. She was hardworking, kind, compassionate, and always had a smile and something nice to say.

She will be missed but forever in our hearts. 

The family would like to thank the dedicated ICU team of Drs. And Nurses at the Niagara Falls hospital.

Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Services. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join her family at the funeral home on Thursday January 30th for visitation from 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service to celebrate her life with take place at the funeral home chapel, Friday January 31st at 11am, with a rite of committal to follow at McAffee cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, and would be appreciated by her family.
